Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has congratulated Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe for being among the six African referees selected to officiate at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Kamanga said the FAZ executive and the rest of the football family were happy on the recent appointment of Sikazwe to officiate at the 2018 Russia World cup.
In a statement made available to the media yesterday, Kamanga commended Sikazwe for his achievements in the 2017 calendar year which include his appointment to officiate at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup final, and the Senior Africa Cup of Nations final held in Gabon.
“FAZ is further enlivened by the bar you continue to set for the current and future referees of the game both at domestic and international level. It is our hope that young referees will emulate the standards you have set as an ambassador and role model of this country.” Kamanga said.
He said the association would continue to identify training programmes to accelerate the development of referring in Zambia.
“FAZ is currently finalizing an attachment programme for some of our young referees to attend refresher courses and attachments in Europe,” he said.
Early this week FIFA unveiled the 36 match officials that will handle matches at the 2018 showpiece with Sikazwe scoring another milestone in his career.
