Two die in inferno

Fire has gutted a house and killed two in Lusaka’s Chinika area, police say.

Police deputy public relations officer Rea Hamoonga said officers rushed to the scene and found that members of the public had quenched the fire.

He said victims included Mercy Mulenga an adult, four female juveniles and an infant.

“All were rushed to Kanyama Level One Hospital, Sadly, female juvenile Deborah Mulenga who was aged one year eight months and Justina Mulenga aged 14years were pronounced dead upon arrival, whilst one female juvenile aged 16 years and male aged one year nine Months have been discharged. The other two members of the family, Mercy Mulenga and a female juvenile aged 11 years are still admitted at the same hospital,” said Hamoonga. 

He said police found two pots of wax mixed with kerosene and two braziers at the scene of the accident.

Hamoonga said the same materials were suspected to be the cause of such fire.
