Zambezi East MP report council workers to ACC

Zambezi East Constituency Member of Parliament Brian Kambita reported council workers to the Anti-Corruption Commission for the abuse public funds.

Kambita appealed to residents of Zambezi East Constituency, to bear with him as pursues ‘greedy’ council workers regarding the usage of the 2017 Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

In a statement yesterday, Kambita said UPND president Hakainde Hichilema had consistently preached and strongly believed on the need for zero tolerance on corruption in the country.

Kambita said as such, he had launched an official complaint to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against Zambezi Town Council workers suspected of corruptly awarding contracts to friends and involved in fraudulent procurement of construction materials from CDF for the year 2017.

“As UPND, and in line with the strong beliefs by our party leadership, we believe that no single ngwee of the CDF should be lost through thieving council workers. The entire 2018 CDF shall remain intact until the 2017 CDF is fully accounted for and audited. As such, we are not in a hurry to call our CDF committee to allocate new funds to new projects when the 2017 funds look to have been mismanaged by a few council workers,” said Kambita.

He said the law should take its cause on the matter and called on the ACC to speedily investigate the matter so that the people did not suffer unnecessarily at the hands of a few council employees.

“North Western Province is one of the least developed places in the country despite the vast mineral wealth it contributes to the national treasury. Hence any small amounts of money allocated must be prudently utilized for the benefit of our people instead of a few greedy corrupt council officials,” he warned.
