OPPOSITION Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo charged with the defamation of the President was this afternoon released on police bond.

Speaking shortly after his release Tembo who has been charged with the defamation of the President said that he regretted the turn of events.

“It is regrettable that there was appetite to try and keep me incarcerated behind bars without taking me to court,” he said.

Tembo expected to appear in court on April 11, explained that if someone was accused of committing an offence, that person should be taken to court promptly.

“In the meantime, there were some fabrications that a call-out was issued to me and that I refused to comply, that’s a total lie,” Tembo said.

He lamented that it makes him worried when the integrity of the law enforcement agencies was questionable.

“I have been released on police bond and am scheduled to appear in court on 11 April, I look forward to that court appearance,” he said.

Tembo added that his response to the state address did not constitute defamation of character.

The Opposition Alliance spokesperson was arrested on Saturday and remained in police custody without charge until Monday afternoon. He was expected to appear in court Tuesday morning but police failed to proceed with the matter.
