Police in Chipata have arrested a man who last week allegedly murdered his wife and a two-year-old son in Katete district following an operation that took place in Chongwe district.

Police public relations officer Esther Katongo confirmed that Godfrey Chomba was arrested in Chongwe district where he had fled after murdering his wife Isabel Mbewe and son Isaac.

Katongo said the incident happened on 28th January this year at about 06:00 hour near Masaiti Farm in Katete.

She said the suspect used a stick and a brick t murder the two.

“Brief facts are that, on the material day, the couple was coming from Masaiti Farm in Katete where they were doing some pieces of work. And along the way, the suspect began accusing his wife of having an extra marital affair with his friend and in the process a fight ensued. The suspect who was on the run was apprehended by police officers from Chipata on Sunday at about 22:00 hours from Shansongo village in Chief Nkomesya’s area of Chongwe district where he was hiding,” said Katongo.

Chomba has since been charged with two counts of murder and is detained at Chapati Central police.
