Convict attempts suicide

A Kapiri Mposhi resident who was convicted for indecent assault and burglary attempted to commit suicide after he was given a six-month jail sentence with hard labour for burglary, and committed to the High Court for sentencing on indecent assault.
On Friday, magistrate Mwila Malupande convicted and sentenced Kelvin Musonda, 42, a peasant farmer of KGP residential area.
Upon being sentenced, Musonda shocked the court when he produced a pesticide, doom, which he quickly drunk.
After taking the substance, Musonda instantly fell unconscious and was rushed to Kapiri Mposhi district hospital for medical attention.
And the audience in court kept wondering who could have given the pesticide to Musonda.
Court officials, however, later discovered that Musonda already had the substance while in custody.
