A total of 1, 520 farmers have received Cashew seedlings and maize seeds for the 2018/2019 farming season in Nalolo District, Western Province.

Nalolo acting District Commissioner Inambao Mwiya disclosed this yesterday when Ministry of Gender acting Director Yunike Mutale paid a courtesy call on him before interacting with a group of women who have ventured in cashew farming.

“A total of 118, 050 seedlings were distributed throughout the district translating into 1,180.5 hectares planted,” he said.

And Mutale said the 577 women recipients was a good number of those benefiting from the Cashew Infrastructure Development Project (CIDP).

She urged the women especially those who faced difficulties in accessing land to plant the cashew seedlings to engage chiefdoms on how they could be assisted.

“Form cooperatives as it is easier for government to assist groups with farming equipment unlike an individual,” she said.

And speaking on behalf of the farmers, Kazembe Kapui commended government for empowering women with cashew seedlings as the project would uplift their livelihood once the crops were harvested.
