Two die in Katete road accident

Two people died while 12 others sustained injuries in a road traffic accident which occurred on Friday in Katete district at Mtetezi bridge on the Great East Road.

Eastern Province police commissioner Lackson Sakala confirmed the development to the media on Friday.

“The accident happened when the Toyota Hiace Minibus Registration Number BAF 1458 which was travelling from Lusaka to Chipata with 14 people on board overturned and later rested on its roof after the front left tyre burst,” he said.

He said Edelesi Mwanza, 68, of Chawama compound in Lusaka died on the spot while 24 year old Fredrick Mwanza of Kamwala South in Lusaka died later at St Francis Hospital.

“The injured have been identified as Edina Kamanga (34) of Balastone in Lusaka, Chigaga Mwanza (56) of Riverside in Kitwe, Ruth Mwanza (39) of Kamwala South in Lusaka, Evelyn Mbewe (32) of Kamwala South Lusaka, Neliya Mwanza (49) of Hills View in Lusaka, Gezile Mwanza of Kamwala South in Lusaka, and Tai Mbewe, aged 20 of Jack compound in Lusaka.” Said Sakala.

“Others are Amon Mwanza (34) of Ibex in Katete, Eunice Mwanza (24), Edward Sakala (20) of Kamwala South in Lusaka, John Mbewe (28) of Kaunda Square in Lusaka, Joseph Mbewe (39), Edward Mbewe (34) of Balastone and a nurse at UTH in Lusaka.”
