OPPOSITION United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says high cost of living, lack of water and sanitation were the critical challenges faced by the people of Kanyama.
During a roadshow to campaign for Chileshe Kangwa Lusaka mayoral candidature on Tuesday, Hichilema expressed delight that the people of Kanyama had love and confidence in the opposition party.
“For their love and everyone else in the country we pledge service to human kind and not self-service. Together with our party vice president, Mr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, we asked our brothers and sisters to vote for our mayoral candidate, Pastor Kangwa Chileshe, as our torchbearer,” said Hichilema.
He said people of Kanyama deserved better services, which his party was determined to deliver once elected.
Meanwhile, Hichilema reiterated his call to UPND members to defend themselves when attacked.
“…… . when attacked and provoked by those at variance with divergent views and democracy, kindly defend yourselves because currently security wings are finding it difficult to protect citizens due to political pressures from those at odds with democracy and good governance,” he said.
Hichilema appealed to the electorate in Lusaka to show their detest for corruption and mismanagement of public resources by not voting for the Patriotic Front, whose leadership was corrupt.
“Lusaka, on 26th July, 2018, you have a chance to begin showing the corrupt and those who do not uphold the rule of law their exit door and then usher in a UPND-led government whose directive and policy is zero tolerance for corruption, law and order, good governance, enabling business environment, actual jobs and education opportunities for all,” he said
