HPCZ suspends medical programmes at four institutions

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has suspended medical programmes at four learning institutions because they are not certified as higher education institutions.
HPCZ senior public relation officer Msimuko Chinyota said the decision follows revelations by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) that 30 institutions had no certification to operate as higher learning institutions.
“The affected institutions are City University of Science and Technology, Harvest University, Luapula Hub of Knowledge and Livingstone International University of Tourism Excellence and Business Management,” said Chinyota.
He said programmes withdrawn by the council include Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science, Food and Nutrition, Diploma of Clinical Medicine and Diploma in Environmental Health respectively.
“The council will only reinstate the courses once the institutions resolve matters with the Higher Education Authority,” he said.
