The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has congratulated the four Zambian representatives in CAF Inter-Club competitions for recording victories in their first leg matches.
In a statement FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the association is particularly delighted that two of the victories were recorded on foreign soil.
Kamanga said the results underscore the fact that the Zambian league is among the best on the continent.
“While the journey is far from over given the second legs due to be played in a fortnight, FAZ is hopeful that the Zambian flag carriers will continue representing the country diligently. We are particularly happy that new comers Green Eagles started strongly and re-affirmed the efforts made to ensure that they play their CAF games at their home stadium in Choma,” said Kamanga.
“We know what Zesco has been able to do on the continent with Nkana also a regular force. It goes without saying that the military discipline in Green Buffaloes and winner mentality will push them to do better than last year.” He said
On Tuesday, Zesco United defeated Sonidep of Niger 2-1 while Green Eagles beat Young Buffaloes (Eswatini) 2-0 while Nkana on Wednesday saw off Songo of Mozambique via a 2-1 win. Green Buffaloes walloped Al Merreikh of South Sudan by a 2-0 result.
Kamanga said the association is hopeful that the strides the clubs were making on the continent drove the game further up and wished the teams the best of luck in the return legs.
