Chief Kazembe arrested for defilement

Chief Kazembe of Lumezi district in Eastern Province has been arrested for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old niece.

 

Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Luckson Sakala, confirmed the development yesterday, saying the traditional leader was arrested on Friday last week and was expected to appear in court soon.

Sakala said the matter involving the chief was reported to Lundazi police station on February 12th 2019.

Last week newsdayzambia.com received a report that chief Kazembe defiled a 14-year-old niece who is a grade 7 pupil at Kazembe primary school.

It is believed that the incident happened in his vehicle

The source said on a material day, the victim with the suspect went to the market to buy relish. After buying relish, they drove to a certain place near Gomatemwa Guest house under a tree where he parked his vehicle.

The source also said that the act happened just in the vehicle and after the act, the suspect drove the vehicle to his plot to buy some time and finally he went back to his residence.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy of Petauke District, Eastern Province died on the spot while an 11-year-old escaped unhurt after an Ox Cart drawn by two cattle which they were in overturned and fell on them.

The deceased identified as Lazarus Tembo of Minga in Petauke sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

Acting police spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the development in a statement, saying the incident happened at Molika Village, in Chief Mumbi area in Petauke.

He said the Ox cart’s right wheel ran over a tree stamp, hence overturned throwing the two boys off to the ground.

And Mwale said the body of the deceased is in Petauke Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while an inquiry file has been opened.
