Mukata Appeals Against his Conviction

United Party for National Development Chilanga Member of Parliament, Keith Mukata, has filed a notice of appeal against his conviction for allegedly murdering a security guard at his law firm last year.
This is according to a notice of appeal filed in the Court of Appeal at Lusaka today.
Mukata said the learned trial judge erred in both law and fact, when she convicted him without any supporting evidence on record to support such a conviction.
“The learned trial judge erred in Law and fact when she convicted me based on circumstantial evidence which had more than one inference to be drawn therefrom,” stated Mukata.
On Wednesday, Lusaka High Court Judge, Susan Wanjelani, sentenced Mukata to death by hanging after finding him guilty of first degree murder.
However, Mukata’s co-accused Charmaine Musonda was acquitted.
The convict murdered his Security guard Namakau Kalilakwenda, who was manning his Law firm on May 6, 2017.
