DPP grants consent for prosecution of Mwaliteta, Sichomba

By Staff Reporter

Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has consented the prosecution of Lusaka Province UPND chairman Obvious Mwaliteta and James Sichomba in a case they are charged with being in possession of offensive weapons.

And Mwaliteta told Prime TV that they were ready to stand trial for the alleged offence.

When Mwaliteta and Sichomba appeared before magistrate Alice Walusiku yesterday, the prosecution said they were in receipt of a consent from DPP to prosecute the case.

However, Mwaliteta and Sichomba could not take plea because the DPP has applied before the Lusaka High Court to grant authority for the case to be moved from Kafue to Lusaka.

It is alleged that Mwaliteta and Sichomba on March 27, 2019 at Kafue jointly and whilst acting together had in their possession offensive

weapons or materials.

The alleged offensive weapons are two improvised machetes, a metal hoe, a wooden pick handle, two stones and a knife without lawful excuse.

The case has been adjourned to May 6, 2019 for mention and possible plea.
