KCM workers down tools

By Staff Reporter

Workers employed by companies contracted by the Vedanta Resources-owned Konkola Copper Mines have gone on strike again due to persistent non-payment of salaries.

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) sources told Newsday Zambia from Chingola on Fridaythat contractors were unable to pay their workers because KCM management was not paying them for their services too.

“Contractors yesterday downed tools demanding to be paid by KCM,” the source said. “They (contractors’ employees) still haven’t been paid. All the contractors haven’t been paid by KCM and in turn they haven’t paid their workers.”

Recently, workers employed by KCM contractors downed tools over non-payment of wages across a three-month period.
