Chitotela, 3 others plead not guilty

INFRASTRUCTURE minister Ronald Chitotela and his three co-accused yesterday appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to four counts of concealing two properties in Makeni and Ibex Hill and possession of the same properties which are suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Chitotela, 47, Gregory Chibanga, 54 and Brut Holdings Limited operations manager Mwenya Chisala are charged with two counts of concealing property while Diris Mukange aged 36 is also facing two counts of possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
It is alleged in the first and second count that Chitotela, Chibanga and Brut Holding Limited between July 1, 2016 and October 30, 2018 in Lusaka jointly and whilst acting together concealed lot number 148 of farm 50A situated in Makeni, Lusaka disguised in the names of Mukange and the remaining extent of subdivision A of lot 22183 /M situated in Ibex Hill Lusaka which was also disguised in the name of Mukange.
The two properties are reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Mukange in count three and four is alleged to have between July 1, 2016 and October 30, 2018 possessed the same Makeni and Ibex Hill properties.
After magistrate Simusamba read out the charges to Chitotela and others, the minister said he denies committing the offences 100 per cent.
Chibanga, the company representative and Mukange also pleaded not guilty.
The matter was adjourned to March 20 for commencement of trial.
