Six men in court for rape, murder and aggravated robbery

SIX men who allegedly robbed a police officer before raping and
killing his wife in Lusaka’s Makeni Villa appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for explanation of the charges.
The accused Kebby Jere, 34, Evans Mwaba alias Shilozi, 38, Clement Sinkamba alias Yeelo, 28, Isa Mtonga, 27, Mathews Malisawa, 23 and Elijah Phiri, 25, are charged with murder, rape and aggravated robbery.
The accused appeared for explanation of the charges before magistrate Nsunge Chanda.
After she read the charges, the accused said they understood them.
The accused will continue appearing before magistrate Chanda as they await instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to commit the case to the High Court for summary trial.
The accused will appear for another mention on April 3.
They are accused of robbing Sgt Simwamba of Protective Unit, raped his wife Joy Simwamba before killing her.
It is alleged that the six in the third and fourth counts to have jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown had carnal knowledge of Joy without her consent and murdered her.
It is also alleged that while jointly and acting together with other persons unknown, they stole from Billy Simwamba various household items and K900 all together valued at K13, 350.
They also stole goods worth K6,150 from Brian Simwamba.
The offences were committed on January 10.
