State to apply for bench warrant against Kambwili
By Staff Reporter
THE State has threatened to ask Lusaka principal resident magistrate Humphrey Chitalu to issue a bench warrant against Chishimba Kambwili for not appearing in court.
Kambwili’s case of expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for persons was scheduled for commencement of trial but the accused and his lawyers did not show up.
Public prosecutor Brian Sianyengo, who is standing in for Noah Mwanza and Juvenalis Kamutondole who are on leave, told magistrate Chitalu that Kambwili did not also appear for mention on March 17.
Sianyengo said if Kambwili does not appear tomorrow, Tuesday, he will have no option but apply that he be brought on warrant.
Sianyengo, however, notified the court that Kambwili’s lawyers were away in Livingstone attending the non-elective annual general meeting.
Allegations in this case are that Kambwili on February 19 this year in Lusaka expressed racial remarks on Rajesh Kumar Verma, an indian but pleaded not guilty.
The case comes up tomorrow morning.
