Police in Chipata have arrested over 10 youths of Mchini compound over recent acts of terror in the area.
Addressing journalists in Chipata Wednesday, Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala said his office had been receiving reports of unknown youths who had been terrorising residents in the area by breaking into their homes and attempting to rape women.
“Acting on the reports, officers working with other residents from the area have managed to pick up the potential suspects who are currently in police cells to help with investigations. And measures have been put in place aimed at tightening security in the area at night,” he said.
He has appealed to residents to cooperate with the police.
And Sakala said police in Chipata had continued receiving reports of motorbike riders being hacked at night.
“The ban which was recently imposed, restricting movements of riders from 20:05 hours is still in effect. And I’m warning that any rider who will be found abrogating the directive will be prosecuted,’’ said Sakala.
