Several Lusaka City Council (LCC) police officers were this morning beaten by street vendors at the junction of Katondo and Katunjila Roads.
An eye witness told newsdayzambia.com that the incident happened when council officers started beating a person who was vending.
“Vendors swang into action like bees in defence of their colleagues and attacked council officers vigorously, leaving one almost dead .He is currently battling for his life in hospital,” the witness said.
The source said later, paramilitary police arrived and started beating everyone.
Meanwhile, a heavily armed convoy of state and council police were still in town, terrorising and arresting street vendors in Lusaka’s Kamwala trading area after one council police officer was reportedly killed by an irate mob.
