A traditional leader in Chief Chikuwe’s area of Kasenengwa in Eastern Province has expressed worry that his subjects and wild animals drink from the same shallow streams.

Weekson Lungu who is also Headman Chinthona appealed for help in the provision of clean drinking water in his territory.

He bemoaned the lack of boreholes in most areas of Kasenengwa constituency.

“Previous members of parliament and well-wishers have been promising us that they will bring boreholes and construct dams in order for people to have access to safe drinking water and to make sure that our animals can find drinking water source than us sharing with animals. We are appealing to newly elected member of parliament Sensio Banda to come in and solve the water problem as he assured us of drilling borehole for the people,’’ said headman Lungu.

‘’Mr Banda was in Rainbow [party] and he promised us a lot to do with water so he knows this problem. Now that we have voted for him let him fulfill his promises according to his campaign massage. Our women wake up early before animals visit the shallow streams for us to have just a little water for home consumption. We cannot manage to buy chemicals to purify the water so sometime we just drink the way the water is.”
