Choma deputy mayor fined for assault

By Staff Reporter

Choma deputy mayor Choolwe Mubambasu has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment with hard labour or a fine of K10, 000 after being found guilty of assaulting his wife.

Choolwe Mubambasu stood accused in the Choma magistrates’ court for assaulting Prisca Kakaanda, a business lady from Choma.

The court established that the evidence by the complainant correlated with the second prosecution witness Mazwanga.

The court has ruled that the evidence given by the second and fourth defence witnesses was not consistent and rendered it as an assembly of lies.

Principle resident magistrate Exornobit Zulu considered the fact that he was a first offender, but argued that as a civic leader, Mubambasu had an obligation to champion an end to such vices.

Magistrate Zulu fined Mubambasu K10, 000 payable before June 5 or face nine months imprisonment with hard labour.
