Tembo not UPND vice president – Katuka

Opposition United Party for Nation Development (UPND) has dispelled reports circulating on social media suggesting that the party has appointed Party for Economic Prosperity president Sean Tembo as its vice president.

The media reports suggest that Tembo has replaced Dr Canicius Banda who was vice-president for politics but resigned from the party.

But in a statement to newsdayzambia.com party secretary general Stephen Katuka said the information is false and malicious as the Vice President for Politics was Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, while the vacant position is that of Vice President for administration.

“As UPND, we have a system guided by our party constitution through the National Management Committee (NMC) which handles such matters. At no time did the NMC sit to deliberate on such matters,” said Katuka.

He has since urged the people of Zambia to ignore the social media speculations.

“As has been our tradition and seen even in the recent past, the UPND remains open to engage various stakeholders on many issues bordering on liberating our citizens from the Patriotic Front’s induced poverty,” he said.
