The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) says about 60,000 cashew nut small scale farmers will this year benefit from grants under the ministry of Agriculture to set up cashew nut plantations.

CEEC Director General Likando Mukumbuta said in an interview that the commission in partnership with the ministry of agriculture would disburse about K2 million under the marching grants project in 10 districts of Western Province.

“The project will be implemented in the 10 districts of western province because that is where the cashew infrastructure development project is being implemented,” he said.

He said that the project was aimed at promoting value addition to the cashew nut crop.

Mukumbuta disclosed that the project would also make funds available to small scale cashew nut farmers that wanted to expand their plantations, set up commercial cashew nut nurseries and to export the crop.
