Two women arrested for assaulting ‘spouse’ to husband

Police on the Copperbelt have arrested two women for assaulting a fellow woman they suspected to have an affair with a husband to one of the assailants.

The two women are seen dragging and beating the victim in her naked state in full view of cheering children and other onlookers in a video which went viral on social media last week.

Police public relation officer Esther Katongo said police have since withheld the name of the victim but revealed that the incident happened on November 8, around 16:00 hours at Kitwe’s Kamfinsa Correctional Service Camp.

Katongo stated that the victim aged 34 years old reported the matter to police in Kitwe on Thursday, November 22, around 08:00 hours.

“The victim reported that as she was at her home with her female friend, who was in the company of a male Correctional Service Officer, she saw the wife of the officer identified as Melody Likando entering the house with her friends and dragged her from the bedroom where she was applying lotion, in her semi naked state,” said Katongo.

She said Likando together with her female friends whom she had come with started beating her and accusing her of having an affair with her husband.

“As the victim was being beaten, it is reported that another person was seen filming the incidence using a cell phone which was later posted on social media. The officer’s wife and her friend have been apprehended and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will appear in court soon,” she said

And Katongo said police are still looking for the person behind the filming of the video who is currently on the run.

She added that the two suspects have since been released on police bond.

And four people on Friday died on the spot while 28 others sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at Vuba area in Kapiri Mposhi along great North road.

Katongo said the driver of a Higer bus registration number BAF 9755, Moses Maseo of Nakonde lost control due to excessive speeding.

“The accident happened when the driver due to excessive speed lost control of the motor vehicle and overturned. Due to the impact, four (04) passengers among them two males and two females died on the spot,” said Katongo.

“Among the injured are one (01) male juvenile, thirteen (13) female adults and, fourteen (14) male adults,” she said

Meanwhile, Katongo said police in Lusaka received a report of unlawful wounding in which male Jannel Chisanga aged 24 of Kabanana Compound was allegedly stabbed by his cousin, James Bahati aged 26, a Rwandese national also of Kabanana Compound.

“The victim sustained stab wounds on the chest, back and on the left arm as a knife is alleged to have been used in the act. This happened on 22nd November, 2018 at about 18:00 hours in Kabanana Compound,” said Katongo

She said facts were that the victim, Jannel Chisanga found a photo of his wife on the phone of the suspect, James Bahati which made him suspect his cousin of having an extra marital affair with her.

“The victim confronted the suspect and in the process, Bahati got a knife and stabbed him in the back, the chest and on the left arm and ran away. The matter was reported to Kabanana police where the victim was issued with a medical report and he is currently admitted to UTH,” she explained.

Katongo has since appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the suspect to report to the police.
