Zambia Sugar superintendent goes in 4 years for corruption

Choma Principle resident magistrate Exnobet Zulu, yesterday convicted a Zambia Sugar Maintenance Superintendent, Willard Mwiinga to four years imprisonment with hard labour for corruption involving K40,000.
Willard 37, of house No. 4 Mukuyu staff area in Mazabuka is alleged to have on dates unknown but between 1st January and 26th April 2014, being an employee of Zambia Sugar, in conjunction with other persons unknown, did corruptly solicit for K40,000 and actually received K10,000 cash gratification, from a director of Lazpine Engineering Company, as an inducement or reward for himself, for having facilitated the award of a contract for maintenance of rollers  at Zambia Sugar Company Plc.

Magistrate Zulu sentenced Mwiinga with effect from November 17, 2017 and forfeited the K10,000 cash gratification to the State.

Mwiinga was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission on May 17, 2014 and charged with one count of corrupt practices by private bodies contrary to Section 20 (1) as read with section 41 of the ACC Act No. 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia.
