About 90 houses in Chambeshi ward in Chinsali district have collapsed due to heavy rains experienced in the last two months.

A check by district officials led by District Administrative officer Davie Mulambya, revealed that most families were spending nights in the cold.

Sub chief Mulolo confirmed in an interview with Zambia National Information Services that 90 houses had collapsed.

“The floods have also affected pupils as some classes are flooded while teachers are failing to drive to schools due to flooded roads and washed away culverts at Mulolo stream,” said Chief Mulolo

He said maize fields have been flooded and while cassava, sweet potatoes and beans are rotten due to too much water in the soil.

And area ward councillor Lucy Mukuka appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DMMU) to help the affected families.
