Police arrest Mkushi arsonist

POLICE in Mkushi have arrested and charged a man suspected of touching a house where seven members of a family, including six children, died.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the arrest of Obert Bubala, 34, and was charged with one count of arson and seven counts of murder.
“The alleged suspect Obert Bubala aged 34years of Mwitwa village forest area, Mkushi was apprehended yesterday, 26/08/2018 and confessed to burning the house. The suspect was transferred from Mkushi to Kapiri-Mposhi police station for his safety as the mob wanted to beat him up in Mkushi. We retaliate our call to warn members of the public not to take the law into their own hands but rather let the due process of the law take its course. The suspect will appear in court soon.” he said.
Seven members of a family, including six children, have perished in a fire at their home in Mkushi District.
The arson incident happened in the early hours of Sunday at Mwitwa farms in Mkushi District, 2 kilometers West of Mkushi turn off.
The deceased have been identified as Royda Chisenga aged 57, Natasha Musonda, 10, Sharon Daka, 9 , Messia Daka, 4, Evelyn Chibuye 4 , Ophen Musonda, 8 and Kennedy Daka 6.
She said all the seven bodies of the deceased are in Mkushi District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
