Build more sports facilities, plead youths

Some youths in the country have called on government to construct more sports facilities.
Speaking to News Day Zambia, Jacob Mulenga said it was disappointing that there were very few sports facilities for youths in the country.
“Even if I’m young but I could see many areas within Lusaka and outside Lusaka that we had a lot of sports facilities of which those facilities are no longer operational due to government failure to maintain what was already constructed,’’ said Mulenga. We need these facilities back so that we start utilising them. Why selling playing grounds where youths can spend time and interact on different issues affecting youths in different sectors of society? And, again, you find that some schools don’t even have sports grounds. We need people who can revamp all these things.”
And Mike Banda from Sinda district in Eastern Province said sports centres should be extended to rural areas.
“In rural areas that is where you can find talent. The good example is Fashion Sakala, Justin Shonga and the others they are doing fine and helping the nation now, despite showing their skills in some poor pitch of Eastern Province,” said Banda.
Meanwhile a check by News Day Zambia at Kalingalinga playground in Lusaka found children playing in a poor environment.
