Chipata residents demand completion of road rehab projects

Chipata residents are demanding rehabilitation of the 14 km Kalindawalo road.
One resident, Maxson Nkhoma in his Facebook posting expressed concern the road had been under construction since 2012 just about the same time as the Mwami boarder – Luangwa road was being done.
Nkhoma said the people would no longer accept to be quiet but demand for quality service delivery from the leaders.
“When we talk, it’s because there is a reason to do so. Surely, Chipata member of parliament; don’t you think in your own honest opinion that our people deserve better? Sable construction company has been a serious let down in recent years. What surprises many is that our MP has been singing praises for Sable Construction Company for such poor works,” said Nkhoma.
Nkhoma has since challenged area member of parliament Moses Mawere to stop misleading President Lungu about the ‘progress’ being made on the roads when the opposite was true.
In October Mawere who is also sports minister commended Sable for the works on Kalindawalo road which leads to Chipata-Mchinji railway station.
And on Wednesday Mawere u-turned on his recent stance regarding the quality of work done on Kalindawalo road by Sable Construction Company.
However, speaking to Journalists recently, Mawere noted with displeasure that the company had delayed to complete township roads for more than five years.
He claimed that he would recommend for the termination of contracts on all roads being done by Sable in Chipata Central.
Mawere expressed sadness that the contractual sum of the road keeps going up every year, yet the project had stalled.
