South farmers anxious over FMD vaccination

FARMERS in Southern Province have hailed government’s recent pronouncement to commence massive vaccination against Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) in the area
A farmer of Chikankata district, Kepson Hamwambwa said that farmers were pleased to hear that the long-awaited vaccination exercise would commence this week as it would help save their animals against FMD, locally known as denkete.
And Brighton Chimuka said farmers in Monze were eagerly waiting for officials from Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to kick start the vaccination of their animals against the diseases.
He urged the farming community in Monze to ensure that they had their animals vaccinated to prevent the diseases from spreading to other unaffected areas.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock recently disclosed that it will this week commence the massive vaccination of cattle against FMD in Monze following the outbreak of the diseases in the area.
