Parts of Mongu-Kalabo road falling apart

By Staff Reporter

Some parts of the bridges on the Mongu-Kalabo road in Western Province have started to fall apart two years after its completition.

Liyoyelo bridge has cracks, threatening the lifespan of the road infrustracture for Zambia’s most expensive road project.

Early project attempts were made in Mooyo in the current Nalolo district, Blue Gums area of Mongu and Libonda area of the province but all proved futile. Several road construction companies such as Consolidated Contractors Company limited from Kuweit made attempts but to no avail.

China Henen was however successful on the project and President Edgar Lungu officially opened the 35 km road bridge which stretches from Mulamba harbour to Tapo Primary School  in the West bank of the Zambezi river in 2016.
