Newly appointed Higher education minister Dr Brian Mushimba has directed University of Zambia to allow all students owing the institution money to write their exams undisturbed.
Mushimba said he was disturbed by information that, as a matter of policy, UNZA management bars students with arrears from sitting for exams until the paid a significant amount towards what they owe to the Institution.
He wondered how UNZA would let the students come this far only to stop them from sitting for exams and hence wasting an entire academic year.
“all students be allowed to sit for exams and deal with arrears at the point of results collection. Iam cautioning High Learning institutions like UNZA to avoid implementing policies that agitate both students and parents alike in this challenging economic situation,” said Mushimba
He advised managements to familiarize themselves with the PF manifesto and remember that PF was a pro poor government working at making education accessible and affordable for all.
