Nullify Kang’ombe’s election Sesheke MP – PF losing candidate

By Staff Reporter
LOSING Patriotic Front candidate for Sesheke constituency Dean Masule has petitioned the Lusaka High Court to nullify the election of United Party for National Development’s Romeo Kangombe as area member of parliament due to the electoral malpractices which characterised the just-ended elections.
In a petition filed in court, Masule says the election of Kangombe was not free and fair because of violence and intimidation.
He said although Kangombe was declared member of parliament for Sesheke by the Electoral Commission of Zambia ( ECZ), he was not duly elected   because voters were prevented from voting for a candidate of their choice due to electoral malpractices.
Masule stated that the levels of violence were so high such that they were even  acknowledged in the Conflict Management meeting which was attended by Southern Africa Centre for Conflict of Resolution and Dispute  (SACCORD ) and others .
He alleged that  Kangombe  as  quoted by News Diggers Newspaper  admitted that the election was not free and  fair  because of  violence.
Masule said because of the violence that marred the election, a number of PF members were injured and admitted to the hospital.
He stated that the UPND cadres attacked PF camps on many occasions.
Masule  cited an incident where a PF camp was attacked and its member  was picked and beaten by the UPND members .
He alleged that there were threats issued  on people including the district electoral officer who ran away from the area.
Masule stated that the district election officer , Sesheke Town Clerk and the council secretary continued to be under guard until after elections.
He stated that because of what transpired in Sesheke, the electoral victory of Kangombe should be declared null and void and he should be granted costs and incidentals for the proceedings and any other relief the court might deem fit.
