Choma DC challenges women to participate in governance

By Staff Reporter

Choma District Commissioner, Sheena Muleya has expressed concern over the low participation of women in governance issues.

Launching a four- day gender workshop in Choma organised by the Child Development Project (CDP) at Riverside Lodge on Wednesday, Muleya encouraged women to        challenge for leadership roles.

“Despite their participation in the labour market, women are reluctant to take part in other serious governance platforms. I’m calling up the church and traditional leadership to work hard in ensuring that gender inequalities are eliminated,” said Muleya.

And Loveness Muchangwe, a participant at the workshop,  expressed gratitude for the knowledge imparted in women about gender related issues.

Muchangwe said she realised that suppression of a particular sex, retarded development at both household and community level.

The workshop was aimed at understanding the gender concept, bringing about awareness of the legal framework and identifying gender tools and how to use them.
