Chipata Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a resident of Mtenguleni area to five months imprisonment with hard labour for house breaking and theft.

Before Principal Resident Magistrate Jennifer Bwalya was Mayeso Zulu who voluntarily pleaded guilty to the charge.

Facts of the matter were that Zulu broke into the house of Jekapu Banda and stole goods worth more than K673.
Particulars of the offence were that on December 28, 2017 the complainant and his family on their way back from the fields found a blanket and an adapter hidden near the house, which they later discovered was broken into.

Banda also discovered that a number of household goods were missing.

The convict was arrested after he was found selling some of the stolen items.

In mitigation, Zulu pleaded with the court to forgive him saying he would not repeat what he did. He said he had learnt through his colleagues who were in prison that it was not a good place to be.

Magistrate Bwalya also sentenced Mike Tembo of Chipata’s Old Jim to three months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a door frame worth K240 from David Mwale.
