The University Teaching Hospitals on Monday delivered a successful operation when a team of surgeons operated and removed needles and wires from 3-year old Richard Zulu of Chipata district, Eastern Province.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in Charge of Administration, Dr Kennedy Malama, confirmed the development in a brief statement on a Ministry of Health WhatsApp group.

“The operation for Richard went on well from 12:00hrs to just after 15:00hrs. He is currently admitted in ICU where he has continued to receive post-operative treatment. A very detailed update shall be given later in the week,” said Dr. Malama.

Richard is undergoing specialized treatment at UTH after being evacuated from Chipata Central Hospital on December 9, last year following a directive from President Edgar Lungu.

Last week Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya disclosed that surgeons at UTH were set to carry out an operation on the minor.
