Police officer in Lundazi commits suicide
A 23 year old police officer of Lundazi District has committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth.
Eastern Province Commissioner of Police Alex Chilufya said Constable Morice Nkhoma of house no. C42 was this morning assigned to guard Finance Bank premises and whilst on duty around 14:15hrs, he pushed the barrel of his AK47 Rifle into his mouth and pulled the trigger thereby fatally wounding himself.
Chilufya said the bullet came out through the middle of his head scalp.
He said bank officials immediately reported the matter to the police who quickly rushed to the scene and found the deceased in a pool of blood and gasping.
Chilufya said the deceased was rushed to the Lundazi District Hospital but passed on around 15:45hrs and the body was laying in the mortuary at the same hospital awaiting postmortem.
Chilufya said the deceased is survived by a wife and one child while the reasons prompting the officer’s action are yet to be established.
