The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) in Livingstone has expressed dismay with findings by the Auditor General (AG)’s report, saying the lack of action is alarming.
Speaking with Radio Musi O Tunya in Livingstone this morning, JCTR outreach coordinator, George Makaha has further demanded that government implements measures that will see an end to corruption scandals each year.
He said that it was also becoming worrisome for government to continue allocating funds to departments and institutions cited for financial illegularities in the AG’s report.
Makaha called for the repeal of the AG office Act to broaden its mandate in order to prosecute perpetrators to restore financial discipline in public institutions.
Makaha has since appealed to secretary to treasury to devises measures that will discourage financial abuse by controlling officers.
The 2016 AG’s report has revealed huge sums of government resources have been lost through misappropriation, misapplication and fraud by various private and governmental institutions and departments.
