Kasama police arrest ex-convicts for theft, burglary

Police in Kasama have arrest three ex-convicts and one Taxi driver for burglary and theft
Northern Province Police commissioner Richard Mweene said police apprehended four suspected criminals who have been terrorizing residents and recovered property worth over K100,000.
Mweene identified the culprits as Dennis Kamoya Chibesa aged 33, Evans Mukokoto aged 27, Friday Chilumba 45 who are ex-convicts and Davis Chitoshi aged 30 a taxi driver all of Kasama.
“The quartet are believed to have conducted break-ins and in the process stealing assorted household goods including prasma televisions, radio cassettes, computers, blankets, motors, mattresses, gen-set,” stated Mweene.
He has since warned that police are on high alert and that perpetrators of such vices would be brought to book.
Meanwhile, a 47-year-old man of Chilindi Village in chief Puta of Chienge District has been arrested for attempting to sell his 13-year-old son in exchange for a fishing boat and nets all valued at K6,800.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has reported that the suspect identified as John Chishimba was on Monday around 09:00 hours approached by a member of the nearby community that he was selling his son in exchange for a fishing boat and nets.
“It was reported that on 17th May, 2019 around 0900 hours, John Chishimba (suspect) approached the complainant and told him that he had a son that he was selling in exchange for a boat and fishing nets and he promised that he would deliver the boy any time,” Katongo said.
She said that on the same day, the suspect took his son and demanded that he should be given the boat and the nets as payment for the sale of his son.
Katongo revealed that the complainant then informed the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) members who later apprehended the suspect and took him to Mununga Police Post.
She said the suspect has since been arrested, detained at Mununga Police Post and would appear in court soon.
