LCC tells herbal dealers to obtain licences

LUSAKA City Council (LCC) has advised herbal business dealers to obtain business permits from the council as required by law before beginning their operations.

In a statement, LCC Public Relations Manager George Sichimba said some herbalists and dealers in imported herbal medicine were illegally conducting their businesses in the city.

“The council will next month commence the registration of traditional healers/herbalists in the city as they are required by law to register with the Council and obtain business permits before embarking on their businesses,” he said.

He explained that following their registration with the Traditional Health Practitioners Association of Zambia (THPAZ), traditional healers should obtain business permits from the local authority.

Sichimba said the local authority was mandated by law to register and regulate all businesses in the district.

“The registration exercise is meant to protect members of the public from being duped by some unscrupulous traditional healers whose whereabouts and personal details cannot be established. Recently, LCC held a fruitful consultative meeting with the THPAZ executive led by its president, Dr Rodwell Vongo,” he said.
