FAZ broke but Sven will be paid, assures Mweemba

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice-president Rex Mweemba has assured former national team coach Sven Vandenbroeck will be paid his dues owed for the failed stint with the squad.
Mweemba, however explained that the association did not have financial capacity to settle the US$50,000 outstanding bill, but would look to its primary funders – the government and traditional sponsors to help deal with the issue.
Mweemba said that delay to pay the coach due to certain circumstances did not mean failure to meet the obligation.
“Us we engaged the coach but we have got sponsors that pay him. But when these sponsors delay to pay him, it does not mean they have failed to pay him”, Mwemba said.
“What we are saying is that yes, he is owed but we just have to get back to the sponsors. So it’s just a question of us looking at it the way it is and then resolve that matter,” he said.
The FAZ Vice President was reacting to the news that former Chipolopolo trainer Vandenbroeck has dragged FAZ to FIFA for failure to pay his salary for the last five months of his tenure.
This is the second foreign coach to drag FAZ to FIFA for failure to pay dues, the first being Darrio Bonnet during Kalusha Bwalya’s tenure as president.
