RTSA to step up patrols on highways during Easter

Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has urged Zambians, especially motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations during the Easter celebrations.

In a statement, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Zindaba Soko stated that road crashes were prominent during holidays and hence the need to observe all traffic rules and regulations.

He said that noticeable cases of speed-related road traffic accidents in the country calls for concerted efforts by all concerned citizens to avoid death and injuries that characterized many of the Zambian roads, especially during such holidays.

The RTSA Director particularly identified the Great North Road, as one of the corridors where recurrence of speed-induced crashes is still worrisome.

Soko has assured the nation that appropriate measures which include deployment of RTSA and police officers throughout the major highways were being implemented to address the menace.

“The Agency has drawn up a pro-active and tentative enforcement programme as means of promoting road safety,” he said.

Soko said that the agency would equally set up strategic spot checks for speed management and screening of drivers for drinking and driving.
