Stop using students as an excuse to close universities-UNZASU

UNIVERSITY of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) president, Warren Hamusunga has told government to stop using students as an excuse to close higher learning institutions.
Hamusunga was reacting to a statement by Higher Education Minister, Professor Nkandu Luo suggesting she had information that the students leadership at UNZA was inciting students to riot.
Hamusunga, who refuted the allegations, said students at UNZA had been facing problems such as sanitation and late payment of allowances, but argues that no one had ever called for riots.
“My union gave UNZA management a week’s ultimatum to rectify sanitation issues on campus failure to which they will dump garbage at the administration block. The minister should infact be grateful because the union has infact been discouraging students from rioting as part of its role to promoting responsibility amongst students,” said Hamusunga.
On Friday last week, Luo gave a warning to UNZASU against mobilizing students to riot amid tension that has characterized the University.
