Human rights have been gloomy, disastrous under PF – Mweetwa

CHOMA Central UPND member of parliament Cornelius Mweetwa told Parliament on Friday that the coming into power of the PF spelt doom, gloom and disaster for human rights record in Zambia.
And Mweetwa says it is bothersome that while the government is ‘preaching’ about not leaving anyone behind, the Human Rights Commission (HRC) is trailing due to under-funding.
Meanwhile, Dr Mwilola Imakando has noted that there will be no peace beneath the skies of Zambia if human rights are not observed.
Debating the 2018 estimates of expenditure and revenue to the HRC where the Commission’s headquarters has been allocated a departmental total K13, 809, 290, Mweetwa, who is UPND deputy spokesperson, stressed that the issue of human rights in Zambia sat at the core of the country’s governance.
“The coming into power of Patriotic Front spelt doom, groom and disaster for human rights record in this country. Just the mover of the motion (Vice-President’s office) on this particular vote yesterday (Thursday) and part of today (Friday) did admit the glaring, diabolic, horrendous, hideous and heinous acts of human rights atrocities that have occurred ever since PF came to power,” Mweetwa charged.
