Electoral bill excites Caritas in North-west

CARITAS Zambia in North-Western Province is elated with the intended reintroduction to the National Assembly of the Electoral Commission bill 2019 as it is intended to involve more experts in the management of elections.

CARITAS provincial coordinator John Kalusa said in an interview that the inclusion of other professions as proposed in the bill was in the right direction.

‘‘We are happy with the move because we feel there is need for other professions to also be part of the commission and not just those from legal fraternity,’’ he said.

‘’We must not only be looking at people who have studied law but other professions such as public administration, peace building & conflict resolution and so on,’’ he added.

He called on all stakeholders to support the move by contributing to the amendment of the Act by providing necessary information to the technocrats.

Kalusa said as the country heads to the general elections in 2021, there is need for clear laws that will guide the entire process.
