CITIZENS Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) will this month start disbursing the US$27 million aquaculture seed fund in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

CEEC Director General Likando Mukumbuta disclosed that so far 18 out of the 363 applicants had been selected for special incentive grants funding amounting to K35 million.

Mukumbuta said the grant was aimed at empowering small scale entrepreneurs in fingerings production in order to address the demand shortages in the aquaculture sector.

“The aquaculture sector has largely suffered from the shortage of good quality fingerings due to the non-participation of small scale entrepreneurs in value chain,” he said.

Mukumbuta said that the project financed by the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) will be implemented in 34 districts of the country.

“The project will positively contribute to fish production in Zambia,” he said.
