Mulongoti re-admitted into SA hospital

PEOPLE’s Party president Mike Mulongoti, who has been an outpatient in South Africa for the past two weeks, has been re-admitted into hospital in that country, according to the Zambia High Commission in Pretoria.

Giving an update on the condition of Mulongoti and that of a University of Zambia (UNZA) student Everett Choongo, Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed that Mulongoti continued to receive specialised medical treatment.

Mwamba said Mulongoti was made an outpatient two weeks ago but that recent developments had necessitated that he be re-admitted into hospital.

“Mr Mulongoti was re-admitted last week into hospital.
We urge all stakeholders not to politicise Mr Mulongoti’s illness and allow him the privacy he requires,” Mwamba appealed.

Mwamba said Mulongoti had not issued any statements as reported last week in the media.

There was a press statement, allegedly issued by Mulongoti, circulating in various WhatsApp groups on Saturday to the effect that Mulongoti and his party were disengaging from the opposition alliance.

Mulongoti, a former Cabinet minister in the MMD government, was evacuated by the government for specialist treatment in South Africa in January this year.

He is admitted to Awryp Medical Centre in Johannesburg.

And Mwamba revealed that the treatment and review of Everett had gone “very well.”

He said Everett was in South Africa for a medical review
“for doctors to ascertain and observe the continued healing of her spine and legs” last week.

Mwamba noted that after the review, doctors were happy with the tremendous progress Everett had made.

Everett sustained injuries to her spine and legs when she jumped from the 3rd floor of her hostel at UNZA in October last year.

in Pretoria.
