GOVERNMENT is conducting an audit of mining firms in view of the retrenchments threats following the introduction of new tax regime.

Mines and Minerals Development Minister Richard Musukwa said Cabinet had constituted a team of experts led by permanent secretaries who are conducting the audit of the mining firms starting with North-Western Province.

“The notices that the mines gave to the workers as well as the government through the Ministry of Labour are null and void,” he said.

Musukwa said government would proactive in dealing with policy issues affecting all sectors.

The minister has also warned that government would not tolerate the fake information that some mines were giving the audit teams in view of the new tax system.

Last week Labour Commissioner Chanda Kaziya reported Kansashi mine in Solwezi to the police for giving inaccurate information to the audit team.
