Police in Kabwe have recorded a case of unnatural death involving a 25-year-old footballer identified as Justice Salasi Oko of Ghanaian origin.

Central Province Commissioner of Police Chola Katanga said Justice Oko visited the country for a series of football trails at different clubs including the Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy.

“Prior to his attempt at the Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy, Oko attended trials at Roan United and other teams on the Copperbelt Province. On the fateful day, Justice Salasi Oko joined his teammates for a road run on December 31, during which exercise he felt unwell,” said Katanga.

He said Oko was rushed to Mahatma Ghandi Clinic and later referred to the Kabwe Central Hospital where he died.

Katanga said the family of the deceased had been informed of the development through Frank Simunji, the football agent who facilitated his entry into Zambia.

“My office has informed the Service Headquarters to write to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that the due process can be followed accordingly,” he said.
